The Ghost Writer
A lot of movies are good without Oscar-winning casts, without blockbuster effects, and without a ground-breaking, original script. Those movies are good just because everything about them is just well done. That’s about where The Ghost Writer stands.
It’s a political suspense film without any occurrences that are entirely unexpected. But there are enough twists to keep the audience guessing and interested. It’s well directed by Roman Polanski, gradually building up tension before bubbling over all at once. And once things get going, they don’t slow down till the very end.
Ewan McGregor stars as The Ghost, and he does a fine job, though, as I’ve said, his performance won’t necessarily earn him any awards. The Ghost is hired to write the memoirs of Adam Lang, the former Prime Minister of Britain, is played by Pierce Brosnan, and he puts on a performance similar to McGregor’s. Recognizable faces were sprinkled throughout, including Jim Belushi and Tom Wlkinson, rounding out the cast.
The Ghost Writer was a pretty entertaining film, but not much more. If suspense movies are your flavor of tea, then it’s worth a watch, but, otherwise, it’s not worth going out your way for. 3.5/5
