Clipse and Consequence
They’ve created and appeared on platinum albums. Their names are synonymous with two of the biggest super-producers in the hip-hop industry right now, The Neptunes and Kanye West. And both acts were rhyming when some of their current musical peers were only dabbling with nursery rhymes.
So who are the ubiquitous “they” in reference? 2010 Ohio University Mayday performers Clipse and Consequence.
Backdrop Magazine was lucky enough to catch up with both acts as they proceeded to rock the Ohio University crowd this past May 20. Clipse, who consist of members Pusha T and Malice (real names Terrence Thornton and Gene Thornton, respectively), recently released their fourth album, Til the Casket Drops, and are in the midst of furthering their Re-Up Gang Record Label and Playclothes clothing brand. Consequence (real name Dexter Mills), meanwhile, has been hard at work in the studio creating his second album, ConsTV. A staple on Kanye West’s record Label, G.O.O.D. Music, ‘Ye himself has been teaming with Cons’ cousin, A Tribe Called Quest member Q-Tip, to deliver Cons’ sophomore effort.
From discussing the current state of hip-hop to their collaborative and musical relationships with the industry’s most well-known acts, Clipse and Consequence give Backdrop Magazine an insight into their worlds as three of hip-hop’s most-acclaimed lyricists.
